Do a reinstall, clean install, of Mountain Lion to its own drive - leaving the one you have as is. Would be nice to have cloned 10.6.8 to another drive for backup and safety, and in case you need to dual boot until you get everything updated if necessary to be ML compatible.

Upgrading the OS over the older does cause issues, especially due to change in code and drivers and dropping support for PowerPC based and drivers that were not 64-bit.
